Charlottesville is home to some of the finest Central Virginia farms. Many of
these Virginia farms date back to the early 18th century and were designed by Thomas Jefferson. While most of these
Albemarle farms are priced above one million dollars there are a few Charlottesville farms in Scottsville and
Covesville that can be purchased for less than a million.
The finest farms in
Charlottesville are found in Keswick which is the eastern most part of Albemarle County. The soil is excellent and
the terrain is mostly pastoral and gently rolling. Jefferson built Monticello in southern Keswick and was born on a
plantation in Keswick called Shadwell. Most of the Albemarle dressage farms are located
here.
For people visiting
the area in search of a Charlottesville farm, they should consider staying at the Orient Express property, Keswick
Hall, formerly Laura Ashley's residence. The Nationally Syndicated Keswick Horse Show is just down the street and
the Keswick Hunt is directly across the street.
Greenwood, Ivy,
Crozet, Earlysville and Free Union also are home to many spectacular Charlottesville farms. There are so many
Charlottesville farms that it is hard to say where to look however the northern areas of Albemarle County are
definitely the best place to begin your search.
